GENESIS 16:7–13
God sees you here
Hagar was alone in the wilderness when the angel of the Lord met her. Her story includes suffering that should never be brushed aside, yet she discovered that God saw her. When you feel invisible, bring Him the part of your life no one notices. Make room, too, for someone whose struggle has gone unseen.
Pause and pray: God, see me in this lonely place. Help me find safe support and notice the people whose pain is easy to overlook.
Jacob lay down with a stone for a pillow and discovered that God was present in a place he had not expected. Your meeting with God does not require a beautiful room or a perfectly ordered life. Pause in the middle of your ordinary surroundings. What would change if you approached this moment as a place to listen?
Pause and pray: Lord, help me notice Your presence in my ordinary day. Make me attentive while I work, travel, wait, and rest.
Moses was tending a flock when God called him. He responded with questions about his ability, and God promised His presence. You may feel unprepared for the responsibility in front of you. Ask what faithfulness requires today, and seek the training and help you need. You can begin learning without pretending to have every answer.
Pause and pray: God, help me respond to the work You place before me. Give me humility to learn and courage to take a responsible next step.
Try the Gospel of Mark or Luke. Read a short passage, ask what it shows you about Jesus, and take your questions to a pastor or trusted Christian. It is okay to begin small.
Can I pray if I do not know what to say?
Yes. Prayer can start with a sentence as simple as “God, help me.” Jesus taught His followers to pray in Matthew 6:9–13; you can also speak honestly about what is happening in your life.
Will God hear me after the mistakes I have made?
The story of the lost son in Luke 15:11–24 shows a father welcoming his returning child. You can turn to God honestly and ask for mercy and a new start.
What if church has hurt me?
That hurt matters. You do not have to pretend it did not happen. Take time to find a safe church community and people who listen, respect your boundaries, and point you toward Jesus with care.
Do I have to have everything figured out first?
No. You can bring your questions while you learn. Start with the life of Jesus, pray honestly, and talk with someone you trust.
