SEVEN-DAY DEVOTIONAL

When You Miss Someone You Love

Seven days of Scripture and prayer for the space between you and someone you wish were close again.

Day 1 · Say the Name

Read Psalm 62:5–8 →

Sometimes a name lights up your phone and you wish it were someone else’s. The psalmist invites us to pour out our hearts before God. Start with the person’s name. What do you miss about them? Even a small thing, like hearing them laugh from the next room, belongs in your prayer.

Prayer · Father, You know who came to mind. I miss them. Thank You for letting me say that plainly.

Day 2 · Jesus Stayed for the Tears

Read John 11:32–36 →

When Mary fell at Jesus’ feet after Lazarus died, she told Him what she wished had happened. Jesus saw her crying, and He wept. If a friendship, a marriage, or a family has changed, there may be things you’re still grieving. Which memory brings tears before you have words? You can bring that one to Jesus.

Prayer · Jesus, stay close when a memory catches me by surprise. You understand why this hurts.

Day 3 · Hear the Whole Sentence

Read James 1:19–20 →

Have you ever planned your reply while someone you love was still talking? James asks us to be quick to listen and slow to speak. Think back to one conversation that went sideways. What might you have heard if you had let the silence last a little longer?

Prayer · Lord, slow me down when I feel misunderstood. Help me care enough to hear someone all the way through.

Day 4 · The Apology You Can Give

Read Luke 15:17–21 →

On the road home, the younger son had words ready for his father. He could name what he had done. Perhaps there’s one sentence you can honestly say, even if the larger story is complicated. Try writing it down. “I’m sorry I said that in front of the kids” gives the other person something real to hear.

Prayer · Father, show me where I caused hurt. Give me courage to own my part and patience to let the other person answer in their own time.

Day 5 · Your Part of Making Peace

Read Romans 12:17–21 →

Paul asks believers to live peaceably as far as it depends on them. Those words leave room for the other person’s choices. Sometimes the kindest thing you can do after an apology is honor someone’s request for space. What part of peace is in your hands today? What part have you been trying to decide for both of you?

Prayer · God, help me do the part that belongs to me. When I want to force an answer, give me patience and wisdom.

Day 6 · Make Room at the Table

Read Romans 12:9–13 →

An empty chair can draw your eyes away from everyone else at the table. Paul invites the church to practice hospitality and share what people need. Is there someone you could enjoy a meal with this week? You can miss one person dearly and still pass the potatoes, listen to a story, and laugh with the people beside you.

Prayer · Lord, thank You for the people I get to sit beside today. Help me notice who could use a place at my table.

Day 7 · A Blessing From Here

Read Numbers 6:24–26 →

God gave Aaron and his sons words to bless Israel. The blessing asks God to keep His people and give them peace. As this week closes, borrow that prayer for the person you miss. Say their name slowly. You can ask God to care for them wherever they are, even if you have no idea how their day went.

Prayer · Father, please watch over the person I love. Be gracious to them. Give them peace where they are, and give me peace here too. Amen.
