When You’re Running on Empty
Seven days with Jesus for anyone who gets home tired and still has people counting on them.
Day 1 · Come as You Are
Maybe you sit in the driveway for a minute before going inside. You love the people behind that door. You’re also tired. When Jesus invites the weary to come to Him, you qualify right there in the driver’s seat. What would you tell Him if you had that quiet minute today?
Prayer · Jesus, I’m tired, and You know what today took out of me. Sit with me here. Help me walk through that door with a little more gentleness.
Day 2 · Something to Eat
Elijah lay down under a tree and told God he’d had enough. Before Elijah took another step on his journey, he slept, and an angel brought him bread and water. Think of the ordinary care you’ve put off today. Could you sit down long enough to eat while your food is still warm?
Prayer · Father, thank You for caring about the body I live in. Help me receive the simple gifts You’ve put within reach today.
Day 3 · Tell Him What Feels Unfair
Martha was making sure everyone was taken care of. What finally came out of her mouth was a question about whether Jesus cared. Maybe you know how quickly a sink full of dishes can turn into that same question. Tell Jesus what you wish somebody would notice. Then give yourself a minute to listen to Him.
Prayer · Lord, You hear what’s underneath my frustration. I’ve missed spending time with You. I’m listening now.
Day 4 · Let Somebody Take a Corner
When Moses’ hands grew heavy, Aaron and Hur found him a stone to sit on. Then they stood on either side and held his hands up. Their help was wonderfully specific. If someone asked what you needed this week, what could you name? A ride, a meal, an hour with the kids? Give someone who loves you a chance to say yes.
Prayer · Father, it’s easier for me to offer help than to ask for it. Give me the words to tell somebody what I need.
Day 5 · Enough for This Morning
In the wilderness, gathering manna became part of Israel’s morning. The people had to step outside again the next day and trust God for breakfast. What part of tomorrow are you already trying to live through? Over your next meal, name one way God has provided for you today.
Prayer · God, thank You for this meal and for the hands that helped bring it to my table. When my thoughts run ahead, bring me back to today.
Day 6 · A Prayer After Dark
You can turn out the light and still be finishing an argument in your head. The psalmist brings his thoughts to God on his bed and ends the song ready to sleep. What conversation are you still carrying? Tell God the part you keep replaying. If there’s something to put right tomorrow, ask Him to help you do it then.
Prayer · Lord, You heard the words I said and the ones I wish I’d said. Keep me through this night and give me wisdom when morning comes.
Day 7 · Breakfast on the Shore
After a night with empty nets, the disciples came ashore and found Jesus beside a charcoal fire with fish and bread. Imagine stepping out of that boat, cold and hungry, and hearing Jesus invite you to breakfast. As this week ends, which ordinary moment could you make room to share with Him again?
Prayer · Jesus, meet me over breakfast tomorrow. Help me remember Your welcome when another long week begins. Amen.
